Spooky Season: Day Trip to Salem

Spooky Season: Day Trip to Salem

Spooky Season is here or should I say it’s almost over. Forgive me y’all. I am late with this post. lol

Another trip to Boston, but this time I went to Salem. I thought it would’ve been a great idea to go during the Halloween season. Heavy on the “thought.” Little did I know, that there would be no parking, possibly no bathrooms accessible, and just really crowded. I went on Twitter just to find out that #Salem was trending #1 as well. I was in total shock. One tweet said, “ Don’t come.” lol

For those who would like to make this trip, I would say go during their off season. I get it, Hocus Pocus is like a “thing” and why would you want to go during their “off season”? Take the train or catch an Uber/Lyft to Salem. Do not drive there during the Halloween season. You won’t find parking!

Salem Ghost Tour

I love a good walking tour, especially if I am not familar with the area. You can tour the area on your own, but I suggest this tour below as well.

Salem Ghost Tour

Salem Witch Trial Museum

You can’t talk about Salem without mentioning its infamous witch hunt. There are all sorts of museums, shops, tours, and more capitalizing on the witch thing. It’s fun to dig into the kitschiness of it all, but it’s worth mentioning that 20 innocent people died during these 1692 trials. Steep yourself into the complicated history at Salem Witch Trial Museum. The main exhibition features thirteen life-size stage sets, figures, lighting, and a stirring narration.

House of Seven Gables

House of Seven Gables, the place that inspired Nathaniel Hawthorne’s book of the same title. The seaside mansion was built in 1668 for Captain John Turner I. Admission includes a 40-minute guided tour of the mansion, a visit to Nathaniel Hawthorne’s birthplace, a stroll through the Colonial Revival seaside gardens, and more.

Old Burying Point Cemetery

Old Burying Point Cemetery, also known as Charter Street Cemetery, is the burial ground for many of the Salem notables. This cemetery is located next to the Witch House and is a popular visiting spot when going to Salem.
