What To Do In Montego Bay- Jamaica

Have you been to Montego Bay, Jamaica?

The last time I went to Jamaica, I stayed in Negril at Sandals. Read more about what I did there.

For this trip to Montego Bay, I stayed at Iberostar Suites Hotel, which has an adults only resort or a kid friendly resort. I went for my bestie’s wedding. We will unpack that in a separate post dedicated to her. Soon come, LOL. I know a few people have asked me about what to do in Montego Bay. I am still sad I didn’t get to go to KFC, but that line was crazy. Everyone said it’s better than in the U.S. Maybe next time!

Montego Bay is a city is known for its beautiful beaches, notably Doctor's Cave Beach, in addition to outdoor attractions like gardens, golf courses and adventure tours. Read more and watch my TikTok below to see some of the things I did during my stay!

The Pork Pit

The Pork Pit is another great spot if you want local food. Not only do they sell pork, they have shrimp and chicken options as well. You do have to pay separate for the sides. I chose pork as the main meat and then for my sides, I chose festival and planting. Jamaican festival is a sweet fried dough made with cornmeal, flour, sugar, salt, vanilla extract, and milk. For my drink, I got Sorrel. Sorrel is the Jamaican name for a type of hibiscus flower known as the Roselle. The dried sepals (the outer parts) of the hibiscus flower create a versatile and colorful red liquid when infused with hot water. Everyone makes it differently, but it is one of my favorite drinks.

Pier One

Pier 1 is a popular bar/ lounge and seaside dining venue for locals and tourists. You can start your night off by eating there first and then partying after. If you’re looking for a day time vibe, then this is a great location for lunch or an early dinner to catch the sunset. Since we went at night, people were still eating, the bar was packed and the DJ played a great mixture to cater to everyone. A time was had!

Chukka Bamboo Rafting on the Martha Brae River

Chukka tours is great for doing excursions in Jamaica. Bamboo rafting has been on my list for a very long time and I was super excited to go! The purchase for this 2 hour excursion includes a roundtrip ticket to and from your hotel, the rafting, rum punch drinks, mud massage and good vibes. They have lockers ($10) and they have a restaurant with a pool and slides if you want to hang out until it is time to head back to the hotel. Our captain gave us a history lesson on Martha Brae. Some people may choose the mud massage option. It’s really up to you. I chose the mud massage, knee to ankle. The mud they use is limestone which is good for injury and inflammation as well. We definitely took some to go, but made sure we tipped our captain good. I packed bug spray, beach hat, shades, sunblock, water shoes and a towel.

@ithnkimbigneesh Next stop to Montego Bay for my bestie’s wedding! Her actual wedding post soon come.
