OVO Festival: Views from the 6ix

OVO Festival: Views from the 6ix

Drakes annual summer homecoming, OVO Festival has been held for the last 8 years.  I had the opportunity to attend this year. You're probably wondering what does OVO even mean-October's Very Own. For all those true Drake fans, you know he is a Toronto born rapper, but to me he will always be known as wheelchair Jimmy from Degrassi.

OVO Fest launched in 2010, a few months after "Over," as an attempt by the then up-and-coming rapper to cement his credibility with a festival in his own honor. Drake started off his show on his throne: a replica of the famously known, CN Tower which was the album cover for Views.

This year, the October 24-born rapper "turned [his] birthday into a lifestyle" -- and brought out The Weekend, Migos, Rae Sremmurd, Travis Scott, Cardi B, Playboi Carti, French Montana and even  a throwback with Nelly. Fans went crazy when he brought out his one- time rival, Tory Lanez and performed the hit, "Controlla."

Fun fact: For all you carnival goers, Caribana is always the weekend of OVO Festival. OVO usually closes out Caribana weekend.

You can check out his new  OVO store in the Yorkdale Mall. The line was wrapped around the corner just to get in. This boutique has a limited collection of men's and women's t-shirts, sweaters, and hoodies.

With the huge success of all of his albums, needless to say that he is one of the most credited artists of our time. Say what you want about him, but his personality and talent has brought him a long way.
