Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic- NYC 2019

Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic- NYC 2019

One of the hottest events to kick off last summer was the 12th annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. This highly anticipated soiree was filled with so much melanin and it was a fashion show you didn’t want to miss! The crowd of #blackexcellence, #blackgirlmagic, and #blackboyjoy was in attendance. It was held at New Jersey Liberty State park on June 1, 2019. We took the ferry from Battery Park to the park. The ride was about 15 mins and you still have to walk into the park. Make sure you bring comfortable shoes for that part.  The event is a good way to network, make new friends, hang out with old friends, watch the polo match, and most importantly, drink champagne. 🍾

You’re probably wondering how the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic originated. Here’s a brief history lesson:

Madame Clicquot was the woman who started the female revolution in champagne by transforming her husband's failing wine business and becoming one of the first international businesswomen in the world. Birthname, Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, Madame Clicquot was the daughter of a textile manufacturer who gave her away in marriage to the son of a competitor, Francois Clicquot.  The marriage united the families and business ventures. The winery was on the verge of financial collapse after the sudden death of Francois. In French, “veuve” means “widow.” In 1798, the firm started marking its corks with an anchor, adding a green wax seal as an additional feature. Clicquot dubbed her production le vin de la comète and added a star to the cork, and later on it became known as Veuve Clicquot-Ponsardin, alongside the initials VCP.

Over the years, Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic has grown into a popular trend for celebrities and general ticket holders. In my opinion, I feel like people go to socialize and NOT watch the polo match. (lol)  The aesthetics of the event has transformed into a multi-city lifestyle celebration and has taken over social media worldwide.

Due to COVID-19, the VC Polo Classic has been canceled this year. I was looking forward to this event, but better safe than sorry!

Instead, Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic will support the efforts of @cityharvestnyc, which is their long-standing partner who is working tirelessly to feed New York City families in need. Click here to find out how you can donate!
