Seven Magic Mountains
Have you ever wondered what those colorful rocks were that everyone keeps taking pictures of in the middle of the desert? Well, I had the opportunity to check out the Seven Magic Mountains art installation last summer. Seven Magic Mountains is produced by the Art Production Fund, New York and Nevada Museum of Art, Reno. This art installation is approximately 10 miles south of the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and St. Rose Parkway in Henderson.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
There is no admission fee to visit the installation. It is FREE and open to the public.
Please bring plenty of water and other nourishment you may need during your visit. Prepare properly for hot, dry conditions: Daytime high temperatures during the summer months average 104° F / 40° C and above. Wear sunscreen, a hat, and other protective clothing.
It’s a good photo opp for the ‘gram or Twitter. You can rent a car or take an Uber or Lyft. We rented a car because we wanted to drive around for the day. It’s about a 20 minute drive from downtown Las Vegas. If you take an Uber or Lyft, more than likely, the drivers will not wait for you. There are no bathrooms or no stores at the art installation. The nearest restrooms are approximately five miles from the artwork, at Jean.
At the end of 2018, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) issued a three-year permit extension for the artwork, allowing the installation to remain on view through the end of 2021.
